Social/Economic Class Project

We are currently working with the United Students of Color group to try to spark discussion about class, an aspect of diversity which is often overlooked in a suburban private school. For the past month, we have been reading short quotes at assemblies. On March 10th, we plan to have an open discussion during lunch.

Who Are We?

We're an open group that meets to have general discussions about politics, share information about events, and plan our own projects and events. We meet twice a week at school during lunch; once to make announcements and share info, and once for general discussions. (Sometimes, we will set up extra meetings to work on a project that doesn't interest everyone. For a few months, we also worked between classes at least once a week to put together the zine and web site.) The meetings are open to anyone in the school, whether they want to learn about radical issues and events or are just curious about anarchy.

What Do We Do?

We've talked about everything from how "crime" could be avoided in an anarchist society to becoming freegan. We've organized to go to the FTAA protest march and a benefit poetry reading/punk show for the Lucy Parsons' Center (a radical bookstore). For the school, we've planned a panel presentation on anarchism (with NEFAC) and a "know you rights" skill-share (with the Boston Anarchist Black Cross).
Oh yeah. There is more about what we've done in the events section.

Why Do We Have a Website?

I see this website as having two purposes; to let people at our school know what we're doing and to get the idea of an anarchist social club out there for other people. Some sections, such as the calender are mostly meant for CSW students, but most of this site is meant for anyone interested in anarchism or in starting their own anarchist group. We thought it would be cool to be able to spread some of the writing we've done for our zine beyond our school and families. (Feel free to use, borrow, or steal any ideas, writing, or art on this site.) And we'll be really happy if this website inspires someone to start an ASC at their school or if it just shows a few people that there are alternatives to the screwed up way the world is run right now.

We're on BAAM's website because a bunch of us know them and we've come to some of their actions as a group and they were cool enough to give us space on their server.
